Due to COVID-19
Sweet Wednesday parties at Central Station
are currently suspended

We now hope - and are planning
towards - re-opening in early July 2021

Legendary LGBT+ venue
needs our help to survive!

Please read the message below from owners Martin and Duncan
– and please donate if you can afford to –

"On Sunday, 7th February, Central Station entered its 30th year as an independent bar in London’s King’s Cross.

We have gone through some tough financial times over the years, but never anything like the current pandemic – at the end of March we will have been closed for nearly eight of the preceding twelve months and the months we have been allowed to open have been at a loss because of the closure of our clubs (30% of revenue), Bed and Breakfast (20%) and the tight restrictions put disproportionately on pubs.

We have not been able to come to a deal with our landlords – rent has been just under £2,000 per week, we have not had any insurance, despite continuing to pay for it, much stock has gone to waste during the three lockdowns, PPE costs have been high, other bills continue to come in relentlessly.

We really need your financial support in order to stay in business, but have been reluctant to ask until now since we know times are hard for everyone, but we can’t go on like this…

PLEASE contribute what you can NOW!"

UPDATE: February 12th 2021

Dear all,
Central Station needs our help.
Thousands of people have visited Sweet Wednesday over the years. If 1000 of us donated £20 each (the cost of full entry to one Sweet Wednesday party) that would add up to £20,000 - a vast contribution. Let's see what we can do...

The Underground Club - without us all in it

UPDATE: November 23rd 2020

As vaccines start to roll out Bob and I are finally hopeful that we
will be able to open again sometime in the spring.

The nature of Sweet Wednesday – and the fact that it takes place in a crowded basement below a venue that is part of the mainstream hospitality industry – means there is no possibility we can re-open until ALL government social distancing regulations are lifted. The approval and rolling out of effective vaccines should make that possible.

If things go smoothly, we think we should be able to re-open before or during April 2021.

At last we can sign off by saying 'see you soon...'

Love, Nancy & Bob xx

October 9th 2020

Dear friends, fun lovers and fans of Sweet Wednesday...

Bob and I hope you have all been well and have stayed
fairly sane over the past seven (SEVEN! I can’t believe it!!)
unprecedented months. Sweet Wednesday has now been closed
since early March – and judging from the way things are going, we
will not be able to open again until next year.

Fingers crossed an effective vaccine is
approved and available soon.

Meanwhile, Bob and I have been discussing organising a
Sweet Wednesday social event in the public bar
with very limited numbers, but the rule of six, the virus
returning and the fact that people from one table
can’t move to join people on another suggests to us
that a social event would fail to capture the
essence and spirit that is Sweet Wednesday.

The public bar at Central Station has been open since July
with strict social distancing rules in force.
This is a trans-friendly space and the owners and staff
will welcome any of you who can travel and arrive dressed.
Please don't hesitate to meet there and enjoy a drink
and a meal if you are able to.

In the end Bob and I have decided to wait until
we can re-open Sweet Wednesday properly - in its full
splendour (if that's the right word!). Until then
Sweet Wednesday will remain closed until government
regulations allow us to return.

But we WILL be back! Do not doubt it!

So until we meet again… stay well, stay happy – and let’s all look
forward to having fun just as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Love you... and miss you!!

Bob and Nancy xx
